Why now may be a good time for investors to allocate to fixed income: Portfolio Manager

The ten-year Treasury yield (^TNX) ticks down on Friday as investors take in the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index — the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge — for the month of January: core PCE, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, increased 0.3% month over month and sits 2.6% higher than a year ago.
Allspring Global Investments Head of Plus Fixed Income and Senior Portfolio Manager Janet Rilling comes on the Morning Brief to discuss bond market (^TYX, ^TNX, ^FVX) trajectories amid recent forecasts for US economic growth.
We are still constructive on growth for this year and think it will be positive. But given the uncertainty, we know that corporate leaders are starting to slow play some of their strategic decisions," Rilling tells Brad Smith and Madison Mills. "Maybe merger and acquisition activity, maybe CapEx investment, and that does lead to a lower view in terms of growth outlook."
The Bureau of Economic Analysis’s (BEA) second estimate of fourth quarter US gross domestic product (GDP) was unchanged from the advanced estimate, which had shown 2.3% annualized growth for the economy last quarter.
Watch the video above to hear Allspring Global Investments’ Janet Rilling comment on how US tariffs loom over the economy and consumers at the moment, and what that all means for fixed-income investing.
