Canadian pilots are flying water-bombing planes, known as Super Scoopers, to help fight wildfires in Los Angeles County, as part of an elite group of international firefighters who provide reinforcement from the sky.
Climate change is disrupting the traditional pattern of wildfires, making them more intense and frequent, and forcing governments to reevaluate their commitments to international firefighting agreements and invest in their own defenses.
The increasing demand for firefighting resources is creating a resource scramble, with countries investing in new equipment and planes, and questioning the long-held wisdom of sharing manpower and equipment, as the global firefighting community faces burnout and stress.
