With Donald Trump set to occupy the Oval Office once again, the news media will be faced with an administration that is expected to be hostile to journalists, while simultaneously attempting to boost declining viewership numbers. In an interview with Yahoo Finance Anchor Seana Smith from the Yahoo Finance Invest conference, Chris Licht, the former Chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide, discusses how the media can approach a second Trump administration and make inroads with younger viewers. Licht says one of the main issues with traditional news media today is that the worlds of opinion and fact have merged. "We used to have one set of facts, and then you could have 30 discussions around that set of facts. Now you have 30 sets of facts and a thousand discussions around those sets of facts, and that has to change, or we’re in big trouble as a society, and that’s a much bigger issue.” Licht reflected on his time leading CNN, which ended tumultuously, saying: “I did it because I felt it was a calling, and because I’m a journalist at heart, and it’s devastating to me that it didn’t work out.” As far as what’s next for Licht himself? He surmises he could return to news, or not at all, saying that whatever is next, “It’s going to be with people I want to do it with, it’s going to be something I can be proud of, it’s going to be something that’s fun, and it’s going to be something I can build with somebody.”
