As voters across the United States make their way to the polls, the race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump for the White House has reached a critical juncture. Veda Partners director of economic policy Henrietta Treyz shares her insights on what factors may have been overlooked in the lead-up to this election.
According to Treyz, a major issue on voters’ minds is the topic of abortion rights. She notes that women make up 52% of the electorate and argues this could create a "surprise" upset for the Harris campaign in swing states.
"I think it’s undersampled and underappreciated how much of a core driver that is when you go to the ballot box," Treyz explains.
"Voters feel like ‘maybe I can’t do too much about the economy,’" adding that the question then becomes, "’What could I actually effectuate change around?’ Is it immigration or is it abortion? I think that’s going to be the core driver of the conversation."
