The House Homeland Security Committee holds a hearing on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. On July 13, a gunman at a rally in Pennsylvania attempted to assassinate former President Trump. The former president was injured, one person was killed and two others were critically wounded after the shooting. Witnesses testifying at the hearing include: Colonel Christopher L. Paris, Commissioner of Pennsylvania State Police; and Patrick Yoes, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., and ranking Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland joined together on Monday in urging embattled Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign after a brutal hearing on her agency’s failure to prevent the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13.
Cheatle, at a hearing on Monday, told the House Oversight and Accountability Committee that “we failed” to maintain the agency’s “solemn mission to protect our nation’s leaders” during the shooting at the Republican presidential nominee Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
