    Since World War II, the US government has collaborated with and provided funding to universities to power research breakthroughs from atomic power to biotech. Now that partnership is at risk. Massachusetts is a prime example of how much the research ecosystem contributes to the economy, and who steps in when the link is broken. MIT’s Rafael Reif warns that cutting federal research funding can “burn our future” and weaken the United States’ innovation edge.
