A rebound in tech shares drove stocks higher as a slate of upbeat earnings and optimism that the US government shutdown is nearing its end boosted sentiment. Nasdaq 100 futures rose as Nvidia led gains across the Magnificent Seven in premarket trading. German chipmaker Infineon Technologies forecast revenue will return to growth in the 2026 fiscal year as the global boom in artificial intelligence data centers raised its sales outlook. Demand for AI data centers is helping Infineon weather weak growth prospects in its automotive market, which represents about half of sales. Meanwhile, Taipei-based Hon Hai offered a rosy outlook for the year ahead, pointing to artificial intelligence development as its most important growth driver. The company reported a better-than-expected 17% surge in net income, to NT$57.67 billion ($1.9 billion) in the September quarter.
In the UK, Allies of Keir Starmer sought to ward off a feared leadership challenge from one of the British premier’s best-known ministers, as cabinet feuds spilled into the open just weeks before the government is due to unveil a contentious budget. Starmer’s supporters privately accused Health Secretary Wes Streeting of plotting to replace the prime minister, according to people familiar with the matter, in an acknowledgment of his weakened position after months of Labour Party rebellions and stubbornly low poll numbers. They argued that any attempt to oust Starmer would risk a market shock and undermine the government’s finances, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing internal disputes.
