Asked by CNBC whether President Donald Trump will follow through with firing a significant amount of the 750,000 or so federal workers impacted by the government shutdown, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called it a “talking point.”
Though previous government shutdowns have shown little impact on economic growth, a prolonged stoppage could inflict some damage, particularly if the president follows through with mass firings of federal workers.
