Economist Stephen Roach says he has doubts about China’s plan to boost the economy through consumer spending, citing the public’s worries about the social safety net and preference to save rather than spend due to uncertainty about the future. "What I’m worried about is that their program is more slogans than substantive actions that really give me confidence that the consumer revival is at hand," the Yale Law School senior fellow tells Bloomberg’s Stephen Engle on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia.
