In just a few short years, the next big driver of the global economy could be something that’s not yet a household phrase: quantum computing. That’s according to CrowdPoint Technologies founder and CEO Sean Brehm, who discusses his work in quantum innovation on a new episode of Yahoo Finance’s Warrior Money, hosted by Patrick Murphy and Dan Kunze.
"The company that dominates quantum computing will dominate the global economy for the next 100 years [or] at least 50 years," Brehm said.
In simple terms, quantum computing allows for faster problem-solving than classical computers. But what makes that kind of technology so influential in so many sectors? "The average investor needs to know the difference between data and information," Brehm explained. "Data, like oil, is just dead lumpy dinosaur. Until some petroleum engineers refine it, it just stays data. … The whole purpose for quantum is to surface information faster from the available data."
The CEO likened this moment in quantum technology to the internet in the 1990s. While the World Wide Web seemed like a foreign concept to many at the time, the industry exploded quickly, leaving many people wishing they had invested in internet companies before the boom. According to Brehm, investors should pay serious attention to quantum tech to avoid repeating that same mistake. "Overnight, things are going to change," Brehm told Murphy and Kunze. "History is repeating itself."
In his conversation with Murphy and Kunze, Brehm further details how quantum computing could influence the global economy in the near future and explains why capital markets provide a unique opportunity for startups in the space.
Hosted by former Congressman Patrick Murphy and veteran investor Dan Kunze, Yahoo Finance’s Warrior Money is a weekly podcast dedicated to uplifting military veterans transitioning into civilian life. Through insights from fellow veterans and high-ranking government officials, Murphy and Kunze are helping set vets up for success through financial education and inspiration.
