For many workers unhappy in their current role or position, sometimes it’s necessary to go back to the basics and rediscover what you’re passionate about and course correct your career.
Career Coach Mandy Tang — who goes by @careercoachmandy on TikTok and other social media — discusses how it is taking longer for workers to search for and land a new job.
"And a lot of people, this is really outside of your comfort zone. You’re putting yourself out there, you are having to network — which is terrifying — you’re having to apply, all the while you’re probably applying to a job because you’re unhappy with your current one," Tang tells Brad Smith on Wealth. "So it really is about managing your energy levels, managing your own expectations, and going into it with a state of mind of resilience."
The Should I Quit? Journal author highlights the best job search months and seasons, tapering one’s expectations, and strategies to manage burnout. "How I define burnout is when your external circumstances do not match your internal landscape," Tang explains.
"So let’s say you you value a certain thing or you’ve outgrown a certain thing. So burnout is that action where the gears are kind of contradicting each other. And what that leads to is a lot of emotional exhaustion and a lot of tiredness. We feel like it takes a lot to even show up because we have to mask at work."
