The Bank of Japan raised its benchmark interest rate to around 0.25% and unveiled plans to halve bond purchases, underscoring its determination to normalize monetary policy. The BOJ says it would reduce its monthly pace of bond buying to around ¥3 trillion ($19.9 billion) by the first quarter of 2026. In geopolitics, Hamas said Israel killed its political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in an airstrike on Iran’s capital. Iran’s supreme leader said he had a “duty to seek vengeance” and that Israel should prepare for “severe punishment.”
