Venture capital has significantly changed since its peak in early 2021. Low interest rates helped investors deploy significant capital into unicorn startups, helping them reach new heights and make their public debuts. However, as the pandemic took its toll and inflation began to strain available capital, more companies took longer to list and hit the market. So, how should investors and businesses navigate this current market? And what options exist outside of venture capital for businesses looking to raise funds? Venture capital investor and owner of Good Rapport New York Bryanna Samuels joins Yahoo Finance’s Jared Blikre for the latest episode of Stocks in Translation to discuss the state of venture capital in today’s higher-rate economy. She explains that for businesses, “instead of taking a little bit of uncertainty in pricing, it might make sense to stay private a little bit longer, raise additional capital, improve your financial metrics, and then come back into the market and then list on an exchange.” Samuels also notes that historically, a disproportionate amount of capital has been deployed to minority-owned companies. However, there are other options outside the traditional venture capital route: “You have so many different communities that you can join. There are so many more diverse investors and then means to access that capital.” For more Stocks in Translation, watch here: https://finance.yahoo.com/videos/series/stocks-in-translation/
