The 2024 presidential election is heating up as Biden navigates calls for him to step aside as the Democratic nominee. Yahoo Finance senior columnist Rick Newman joins Catalysts to discuss the Democrats’ strategy ahead of November.
Newman notes that there is no real strategy behind Biden’s candidacy: "If an incumbent president wants to run for reelection, he runs for reelection. And you can’t argue…"
While Biden has reiterated that he will stay in the race, Newman says that if his closest family and political allies advise him to drop out, he may likely listen. He explains that the concerns about his age and mental competency are keeping Democrats from "talking about Donald Trump and what Donald Trump’s vulnerabilities and foibles might be," which could do even more harm to the campaign.
"What the Biden campaign would love to do is get this election back on the issues that they think are winning issues for them," Newman adds, pointing to key issues like abortion and the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.
He stresses the importance of the quality of each campaign, as swing states are likely to determine the outcome of the election.
