Tens of millions of Americans are gearing up to view the total solar eclipse, where the sun will be almost entirely covered by the Moon. It’s the first time in almost a century that the western and northern parts of New York state will experience a total eclipse. Though the entire event will last for several hours, the main spectacle — when day turns to night — is expected to last only about four minutes. These are live pictures from around North America.
