The second of two ringleaders in the plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2020 was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to 19.6 years in prison and five years of supervised release, the longest sentence of anyone involved in the plot to date.
But the nearly 20-year sentence for Delaware truck driver Barry Croft, 47, on Wednesday and the 16-year prison sentence and five years of probation for codefendant Adam Fox, 39, on Tuesday surprised former Detroit U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider, who was involved in the initial investigation and charges.

Atlanta, GA – A Fulton County sheriff’s deputy was found fatally shot inside a vehicle early Thursday morning.
The unidentified deputy’s body was discovered in the driver’s seat of a silver car that had been involved in a crash on Bolton Road Northwest, WAGA reported.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 29 after receiving a report of shots fired.
Investigators said the crash potentially involved a second vehicle that fled the scene, WAGA reported.
Police said they do not have a description of a second vehicle or of the gunman.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) is expressing frustration with the media’s reaction to his two-day trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands amid a storm that left parts of the city flooded.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Adams said, “Every mayor traveled away.”
“I deserve private time — I’m a believer of that,” he continued.
Adams went on:

“I deserve to walk out of the building without a reporter hiding behind a flowerpot — without someone following me.

House Sergeant at Arms William Walker said if black people had rioted at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, a “vastly different response” from law enforcement would have taken place, The Hill reported.
Walker led the D.C. National Guard during the Jan. 6 rioting and gave his assessment to the House Jan. 6 panel in April, the outlet said, citing a transcript released this week.
“I’m African-American. Child of the sixties. I think it would have been a vastly different response if those were African-Americans trying to breach the Capitol,” Walker said, according to The Hill.
